Upon arrival in parking lot 6 at UCR, you will be met by a research assistant who will be holiding a sign to help you identify one another. The research assistant will escort you and your child(ren) to the Lab.

You will be guided to our playroom where your child will have a chance to settle in and get comfortable while you are given more information about the study. You will have a chance to ask any questions you want so that you understand the study and your rights as a participant.

When you are ready, you and your child will be taken to a different room, where you and your child will spend some time doing a variety of activities. For example, you may be asked to play a game with your child, look at a picture book together, or make a puzzle.

After you and your child have finished these activities, there will be a snack break. A variety of snacks and juices are available and you will be able to select a snack for both you and your child.

After the snack break, we may ask your child to do some independent activities without you in the room. During this time, your child will be asked to play some games, make some puzzles and help to finish some stories with the research assistant. In the meantime, you will complete some questionnaires and interview questions in the next room.

You may ask to see your child at any point during the assessment and s/he will be able to come and see you if s/he wants at any time as well. You may observe your child’s assessment via video in the recording room if you would like.

At the end of the assessment, you will be compensated for your time at a rate of $25 per hour. In addition, your child will be awarded a small gift bag of age-appropriate toys to thank her/him for participating.
